Malden PD's canine unit was reactivated
in 2004 and is currently comprised of
Officer Michael Polston and his canine
"Leon." Leon is a 6-year old male
German Shepard who was imported from the
Czech Republic. Officer Polston
and canine Leon graduated from the
Boston Police Canine Academy in 2004 and
received additional training from the
Middlesex Sheriff's Office. They
attend monthly in-service training with
the Middlesex Sheriff's Office and
Massachusetts State Police. Canine
Leon is trained in narcotics detection,
criminal apprehension, missing and
wanted person searches, article
searches, building searches, and handler
protection. Since 2004, the canine
unit was been very successful in
locating suspects and drugs. The
work of Officer Polston and canine Leon
has led to numerous seizures of money,
vehicles, and other profits of drug
distribution.
The Malden
