Malden PD's canine unit was reactivated
in 2004 and is currently comprised of
Officer Michael Polston and his canine
"Klaus." Klaus is a 4-year old male
German Shepard who was imported from the
Netherlands. Officer Polston and
canine Klaus graduated from the
Massachusetts State Police Canine
Academy in 2011. They attend
monthly in-service training with the
Middlesex Sheriff's Office and
Massachusetts State Police. Canine
Klaus is trained in narcotics detection,
criminal apprehension, missing and
wanted person searches, article
searches, building searches, and handler
protection. Since 2004, the canine
unit was been very successful in
locating suspects and drugs. The
work of Officer Polston and canine Klaus
has led to numerous seizures of money,
vehicles, and other profits of drug
distribution.
The Malden
